Drawing is a skill that helps define ideas. From a simple leaf to a vast landscape, nature invites us to observe the natural world we see daily. Learn to draw the basics in this observational drawing class to sharpen your artistic skills and acquire a deeper connection to the field and the beauty of our environment. Participants will be inspired by Charles E. Burchfield’s sketches on exhibition in the gallery.

With step-by-step instructions, participants will study formal drawing techniques over a series of projects that unmask theories of realism and 3D-illusion to complete a well-understood drawing of nature. Discover how to break down landscapes into basic shapes and understand the visual reference of light.

Laike Palermo, Drawing and Painting Instructor
Laike Palermo is a figurative painter who attended Daemen College where she received her B.F.A. in Painting and minor in art history. Throughout the years of revising her work, Laike became a virtuous artist and instructor with a specialization in oil painting and graphite drawings. The inspiration of her work is represented through existentialism and color, with a current emphasis on self-portraits, battling to find her identity.
