Mark-Making Pages: A Sculptural Bookmaking Workshop

Ticket TypeNot-Yet-Members

Saturday, October 24 | 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Artist/Instructor: Andy Krzystek

Supplies included.

Step beyond traditional bookmaking in this process-based workshop exploring experimental drawing and sculptural form. Participants will create layered pages using unconventional mark-making techniques and unexpected drawing tools, transforming gestures and movements into a visual record of the creative process. Artist/Instructor, Andy Krzystek, approaches his paintings background through nontraditional methods including works created with skateboard wheels and the feet of chairs. Participants will build a collection of marked pages that document their experience through nonverbal expression rather than text. Using these handmade pages, participants will learn to fold and construct a sculptural lotus book, allowing the marks themselves to design the pages in their final form. Part drawing experiment, part book arts practice, this workshop invites participants to explore process and personal visual language while creating an artist book that becomes a tactile record of time spent creating at the Art Center.

Andy Krzystek

Andy Krzystek is a native of the Buffalo/Niagara region and a graduate of the University at Buffalo with a BFA in Printmaking. He creates artwork that spans drawing, painting, and print techniques allowing his work practice to explore the relationship between understanding others and the significance of error. Andy encourages viewers to embrace the walk toward what is not yet fully understood.
