About the Book

Jonathan Drake is a genteel London solicitor with a pedigreed family history. In the spring of 1908, he embarks on a journey to Eastern Europe to complete the sale of a prestigious London mansion to a mysterious baron. Jonathan’s journey becomes a nightmare when he discovers that the local populace is terrified of the baron – and for good reason. There have been unsolved disappearances, and soon Jonathan goes missing without a trace. Meanwhile, the baron departs for London, settles into his mansion, and cleverly integrates himself into high society -- counting among his friends Jonathan’s wife and parents. Nine months later, Jonathan appears on the doorstep of his home, bringing with him a strange servant named Joe Golm – a human-looking, supernatural creature from Prague. Jonathan's friends and family are shocked, and rumors of his mental instability start to circulate, threatening to ruin the Drake family name. Jonathan and Joe must protect not only the Drake family from the baron’s evil plans, but also a young Winston Churchill. Ultimately, they must foil the baron’s prophecy that a dark fire will engulf all of Europe, and eventually, the world.
