Friday, March 22, 2024 will feature performances by two amazing local dance companies: MahataMmoho Collective, founded by Megan A. Evans-Rakeepile, as well as Devi Bollywood Performing Arts founded by Gaitrie Subryan. 

The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.

ABOUT THE DANCE COMPANIES

MahataMmoho Collective was founded in 2014 by Megan A. Evans-Rakeepile. Megan studied a range of dance styles and techniques for the past 30 years. The two genres of dances Megan specializes in are Afro Caribbean and Afro fusion, they both share similar foundations that are influenced by the African diaspora and the survival of colonization. MahataMmoho Collective’s goal is to bring together artist from all walks of life and professions to create a work of unity and culture exchange.

Devi Bollywood Performing Arts was founded in 2013 by Gaitrie Subryan. It is rooted in dance forms from India Classical Dance, Folk Dance, and Bollywood Dance with an artistic blend of Western dance forms. This unique combination, with a focus on footwork, abhinaya (facial expressions), and fluidity of movements that come from Indian dance, has made their work stand out. Their mission is to build strong communities, celebrate diversity, and foster inclusion through dance. The troupe collaborates with myriad artists and aesthetics from all backgrounds; music and dance can transcend boundaries and build community with individuals from all backgrounds. Each performer within the troupe is dedicated to their craft, teaching at various studios, offering master workshops, and performing and choreographing for dance studios in the area. Devi Bollywood Performing Arts strives to educate, entertain, and inspire individuals from all backgrounds and ages to promote their mission and make this dance form accessible to all.

Panel Discussion and Demo*

Saturday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m.
Tower Auditorium

An afternoon with all! From 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Tower Auditorium, all three of our prestigious dance companies will come together to discuss collaboration. Watch as each company demonstrates some of their rehearsal techniques to one another. This will be an interesting inside look at how dancers train and how each company approaches collaboration. Ask questions and learn how these types of engagements help diversify and strengthen each dance company. And best of all, it’s free if you have purchased a ticket to either of the evening performances.

The demo will begin at 4:00 p.m. with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. 

*Please note that the Panel Discussion and demo is a free event for anyone who has purchased a ticket for either dance performance.
