Description: Have you ever wanted to paint a portrait of yourself or perhaps a loved one? Over the course of four introductory classes with artist Bree Gilliam, participants will learn acrylic painting techniques and color theory and paint a monochromatic portrait. Bring a photograph of yourself, a friend, or a family member you want to paint.


Week 1: Introduction to mixing colors

Week 2: Shadow tones and image tracing

Week 3: Techniques including middle tones

Week 4: Highlights, background, and finishing touches


Supplies: All Supplies are included.

*Please bring a high-quality photograph reference of only one person with an expressive face or emotion.


Bio: Bree Gilliam is a painter and entrepreneur living in Buffalo. Her work focuses on social issues and experiences that people face daily. Gilliam uses bold colors and expressive brushwork to portray deep emotions in her work. Gilliam primarily paints portraits of friends and family. She aims to relate, inform, and spark conversations around her powerful portraits. Gilliam believes that having conversations is the first step to solving problems in this world. Bree Gilliam
